Record Store Day, Saturday April 16 2011

Record Store Day 2011 is shaping up to be one of the biggest celebrations of music seen in the UK.

180 stores are taking part, hosting over 200 performances, and there are more than 250 exclusive releases from a huge range of artists including; Radiohead, Queen, Arctic Monkeys, Wild Beasts, Gorillaz, Echo and the Bunnymen, Villagers, Warpaint, Primal Scream, Lady Gaga, The Kills, Regina Spektor, Nirvana, Metronomy, The View, Foals and Ozzy Osbourne.

Special in-store activities for the day range from cake stalls to badge-making classes to readings to rock-star face-painting.

UK organiser Spencer Hickman said, “This is a grass-roots event showing the passion and vitality of independent stores which are rooted in their local communities. With over 200 performances, Record Store Day will be one of the biggest free festivals of music ever seen in the UK. It is like an urban Glastonbury taking in every corner of the UK.”
