As this piece of research shows, there are still plenty of organisations struggling to get their heads around the benefits of social media and to what extent they should allow / enable their teams to get involved.
The truth of the matter is that social media is not going away, It will probably change and evolve but the ability to connect and communicate with companies, customers, business partners and stakeholders across the globe is only going to get easier and more common.
All organisations need to engage with social media, to develop strategies and create guidelines for their members. It might well be sensible to start slowly and extend activities over time, but you need to start now. The best have been doing it for a while, and all the time they are getting better and gaining more ground on those who have been too slow or timid to engage.
